The Pre-Operative Clinic operates on Thursday and Friday from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm. The theatre Liaison will contact you by telephone to arrange your appointment if not previously booked.
If you work during the day and have not provided your work contact number, please telephone the Theatre Liaison so that your appointment can be arranged.
The pre-Operative Clinic provides you with important information and tests that you will need before your operation at Echuca Regional Health.
All patients having surgery (except those having caesarean sections) that involves one or more nights stay are expected to attend the Pre-Operative Clinic.
During your appointment you will meet the Pre-Operative Clinic nurse who will ask you questions about your health discuss your pre and post operative expectations and provide you with information regarding services available after your discharge.
The Pre-Operative Clinic visit usually takes 1-2 hours; however patients having joint replacement surgery may be at the hospital for 3-4 hours.
During your appointment you may require:
- a urine test;
- a blood test;
- an ECG to test the function of your heart;
- a chest x-ray to be organised;
- to see the Physiotherapist;
- to see the Oncology/Breast Support Nurse;
- to see the Stomal therapy Nurse;
- to see the Occupational Therapist.
You will be seen by the hospital Doctor who will ask you about your medical history and examine you to ensure that you are fit for surgery.
The information gained at the Pre-Operative Clinic will assist us in coordinating the best possible care for you as an individual.
Please bring your regular medications, your pacemaker information card (if you have a pacemaker) and a urine sample with you to your Pre-Operative Clinic appointment.
If you have recently had blood tests, x-rays or an ECG it would help us greatly if you could bring a copy of the results with you or have them forwarded to:

Access to the Clinic is located in the ground floor of the Lumeah building. Entry to the car park is via the driveway off Leichardt Street.
If you have any questions about your surgery or your stay at Echuca Regional Health, please write them down and bring them to the Clinic with you.
