Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is a health profession that uses selected activities/aids to prevent and overcome many physical, emotional or social disabilities in people of all aged. The objective is to promote, maintain or restore functional independence in all aspects of daily living.

Services include: 

  • Splinting and hand function; 
  • Provision of aids; 
  • Home assessment; 
  • Relaxation therapy; 
  • ADL assessment and treatment; 
  • Back care education; 
  • A & EP application; 
  • Upper limb function; 
  • Cognitive function; 
  • Personal alarm system; 
  • Other community health programs such as cardiac rehabilitation and arthritis support; 
  • Rehabilitation through the Community Rehabilitation Centre with a multi-disciplinary approach.

Equipment such as over-toilet frames, shower chairs, bed poles, wheelchairs and commodes are available on short term loan from the Occupational Therapy department to enhance independence following discharge from the hospital. A $15.00 surcharge applies for most items after the first month of your discharge from Echuca Regional Health.

Referrals will be accepted from medical practitioners, relevant allied health disciplines and health care agencies. Appointments are essential to avoid waiting, or inconvenience. Appointments can be made by contacting the Occupational Therapy Department direct -24 hours notice of a cancellation is required.

In accordance with the Department of Human Services Fees Policy, community patients are charged $10.00 per consultation or $6.50 for Health Care Card holders. This fee applies to the first eight visits of an episode of care, after which time a review of the fees will be made if required. Fees do not apply for services to: 

  • Adolescents 12 - 18 years of age; 
  • Services to children 0 - 12 years of age whose parents are Health Care Card holders; or 
  • Inpatients and outpatients of Echuca Regional Health.

Compensable patients will be charged according to the schedule rate.
