What to bring

It is often not practical for people to be organised for a trip to the Emergency Department, however many of our regular patients are extremely well prepared. It will streamline your care if you are able to bring with you the information we need to help look after you.

Please Bring

  • Relevant medical history and a list of current medications;
  • Medicare card;
  • DVA card;
  • Pension card;
  • Health insurance book/details;
  • TAC and Work Cover claim numbers, including employer details;
  • Two telephone contact numbers of friends or relatives;
  • Name, address and telephone numbers of your local Doctor.

Waiting times

The Emergency Department in Echuca is a very busy Department for a town of this size.

We estimate we will see 14,000 patients this year, each of which will be attended to in one of our 8 cubicles. Despite the small size of the Department we are highly regarded by the Department of Human Services for our ability to provide care in timeframes which are well under State averages.

It is a critical part of our role to gain a clear understanding of your health as soon as you arrive to the Emergency Department. This allows us to accurately prioritise all of our patients to ensure the sickest patient is seen by the next available Doctor. Please help us by providing as much detail as you can about your illness.

Your patience is also appreciated as we understand that no patient wishes to wait to be seen and we will be working to ensure that you are in the correct place in the queue.

Accounts

The Emergency Department consultation is a free service to those people eligible under Medicare.

Accounts will be raised to those individuals from countries without reciprocal agreements. Generally these will be able to be recouped through travel insurance.

Accounts may also be raised for medications and the purchase of equipment such as crutches.

Private patients are responsible for private consultations within the department.
