Information for Patients and Visitors

Echuca Regional Health provides a comprehensive range of health services including acute hospital, residential aged care and primary care to the Echuca/Moama community and surrounding districts.

We trust that your stay with us will be a positive experience and we look forward to providing a quality service to you and your family.

We welcome your feedback on any aspect of the service we provide, which can be forwarded to the Chief Executive, Echuca Regional Health, 9 - 27 Francis Street, Echuca 3564.

Admissions
The admission office is located through the main entrance of the hospital. On arrival admission staff will assist with any enquiries you may have in relation to admission procedures.

Information regarding the Pre-Operative Clinic can be found by accessing the 'services' section of our website.

Visitors
Visitors are an important part of hospital life and contribute greatly to a patient's recovery. However, for the benefit of our patients we do ask that visitors observe the visiting hours set out for each ward area, particularly those set aside for rest periods. More flexible visiting hours can be arranged in special circumstances - such as with extremely ill patients or where families live a considerable distance from the hospital.

Visitors may be asked to leave the room temporarily whilst medical, nursing or paramedical staff attend to the patient.

Nurse Call Bell System
A 'buzzer' is situated beside each bed in the ward areas. A short push on this buzzer will alert the nursing staff that you require assistance.

Telephone and Patient Enquiries
Enquiries by relatives and friends regarding a patient's condition and progress are best made in the afternoon as most Doctors will have completed their ward rounds by this time.

To assist with enquiries, most beds are equipped with a telephone. A direct line telephone number will be provided to you upon admission.

No Smoking
Echuca Regional Health is a smoke free organisation. Smoking by patients, visitors and staff is not permitted within the hospital grounds or buildings.

Hospital Charges
On admission, all patients are categorised in one of the following classifications:

Public patients
- are those who, regardless of health insurance status, do not elect to be treated by a medical practitioner of their choice in a private capacity. The hospital will allocate you a Doctor and notify you of their name as they will be responsible for coordinating your care and treatment. Public patients are not charged for any medical services, accomodation or theatre services.

Private patients - are entitled to select a doctor of their choice from available members of the visiting medical staff associated with the hospital. Private patients will be charged for accommodation and diagnostic fees by the hospital.

Special class patients - have a right to recover compensation or damages associated with an illness, disease or injury. Specifically, these relate to amounts payable under the various relevant Acts such as the Workcover Act, Motor Accident Act and others.

Single Rooms
As Echuca Regional Health is a public hospital, single rooms are allocated on the basis of patient and medical need, not necessarily on the basis of patient insurance classification. However, if a single room is available, priority will be given where possible to private patients.

Meals
You will be offered a wide variety of meals during your stay at Echuca Regional Health. Each day a menu monitor will visit you to ensure your needs are being met. Dietetic advice encompassing all areas of nutrition and dietary requirements are provided by an Accredited Practising Dietitian.

Kiosk
Volunteers from the Echuca Regional Health Ladies Auxiliary operate the hospital kiosk. The kiosk stocks a variety of newspapers, magazines, sweets, ice creams and drinks and is open between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm Monday to Saturday.

Cafeteria
The hospital cafeteria offers a wide selection of meals and beverages at reasonable prices and is open to the general public. Should your visitors require a meal, please check cafeteria meal times with staff.
