The Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay has historically been Echuca Regional Health’s major fundraising event, and has enabled us to purchase much needed equipment and undertake projects that otherwise would have been difficult to achieve.
This year, Echuca Regional Health had set a target to raise $40,000 from the event, which would enable us to complete the installation of a pneumatic tube between the
Emergency Department (ED) and Goulburn Valley Pathology. The pneumatic tube operates as a suction tube, allowing pathology specimens to be transferred from the ED to Pathology and likewise in reverse. This will significantly reduce the amount of time taken for pathology results to become available, in addition to reducing workload for ED staff and orderlies, allowing more time for patient care. The introduction of the pneumatic system will improve patient care by accelerating results, enabling doctors to treat patients more effectively and reducing waiting times.
The numbers are in, and the challenge has been successful! Over $50,000 has been raised by this years' Murray to Moyne fundraising effort. This is largely contributed to the generosity of our community in sponsoring our event. Thank you to all those who participated in the
sponsorships, in particular to the
Moama Bowling Club,
Simplot and
Goulburn Valley Health Pathology who each contributed $10,000.
Our riders headed off on the 5th of April on the 520km ride from Echuca to Port Fairy, with a stay in Hamilton. Fortunately there were no accidents, so the first aid kits were not required!
Our Riders this year were:
John Scales Jeff Martin Ray Hamilton Robin Lewis Marcus D'Angri Matt Sharp Ray James Andrew Clapham Jim Avard |
Michael Fox Paul Burns Gordon Morrow Peter Hyden Shane Weller John Steel Alistair McLeod Karl Stenning Matt Stenning Brett Ayres |
The success of an event such as this is dependent on a large support crew. These people volunteer their time for the duration of the event, and make sure our cyclists are well looked after and finish safely. Echuca Regional Health and Rotary would like to thank the following people for taking on this job.
Shane Edge Barbara Westwood Geoff Westwood Michael Delahunty Jackie Delahunty |
Shelly Smith Mardi Stephenson Shellie Smith Luke Bonnett Bob Gummersall |
